#140conf Detroit
Why #140conf is different than your average conference

Jeff Pulver’s #140 Character Conferences are truly something special.

Unlike a lot of other conferences where there is a lot of puffery and self-promotion people who attempt that at the #140Conf events really find out quickly that, unless they are traveling with their own private clique, they are irrelevant. One gets the feeling that if President Obama, President Bush, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Walt Disney were at the event with you that you and they would all be treated identically.

I have been to #140 in NYC plus LA last year and this year along with Boston earlier this year. This doesn’t include the various Meetups/Tweetups that have been held that I’ve attended as well.

I’ve made many new friends – both IRL and just online (although I love meeting the online friends and making them IRL as well.) But the beauty of it is that these are not “business friends” but rather people who have become real friends. The type that, if I am not online for a few days (yes I unplug…) will SMS me or even pick up the phone to find out if everything is OK.

That is why the global #140Conf community is so special and why, if I had the money I wouldn’t want to miss any of the Conferences in person. (Any that I am not able to attend in person I watch online via the livestream if there is one or on playback, etc.)
